At the end of the 19th century, it was transformed with the expansion of its facilities, which significantly boosted its commercial activity. In the 20th century, it consolidated its position as a key location for trade and industry, accommodating the needs of modern maritime transport.

Ership Group, under the direction of Don Juan Alvargonzález, a shipowner and prominent figure in the shipping industry, expanded its operations by managing Explosivos Río Tinto in 1970, thus establishing its expansion out of Asturias towards Huelva.
